Diabetes Demographic Trends

This 11th edition of the IDF Diabetes Atlas provides estimates for diabetes in 2024 and projected estimates for 2050. The estimates include diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes for adults aged 20–79. Worldwide, a total of 589 million adults aged 20–79 are estimated to have diabetes (11.1% of all adults in this age group). By 2050, the number of adults living with diabetes will rise to a projected 852.5 million. While the world’s population is estimated to grow 25% over the next 25 years, the number of people with diabetes is estimated to increase by 45%.
